Newsletter 02 – Autumn Term 2006

                                                                                                                                    15th September 2006

Dear Parents

As part of the Consultancy role that I hold with the County Council, I will be required to work in a school in the Langport area for most of the next three weeks.  As previously mentioned this role is instrumental in bringing in much needed extra income, which enables us to make excellent provision for all of our pupils.  Naturally, I will be keeping in very close contact with Mrs Sally Geary, Deputy Head who will be taking care of many roles within the school in my absence and I will also be “popping in”.  Wendy Brettell has kindly offered to cover my teaching role in Year 6.

If you have any queries or concerns in my absence, please see your class teacher or Mrs Geary who will be pleased to help.  I will be contacting Jane Cutler in the school office regularly so if you wish to speak to me, mention it to Jane, or even Tommy Walker, our Chair of Governors.

The consultancy work does enable me to work in other environments and therefore reflect very clearly on our provision at Abbas and Templecombe, which is a real bonus.

Harvest Festival

The Harvest festival assembly is now confirmed as Tuesday 3rd October at 2.30pm.  Please join us for this lovely Autumn event.  Details about ‘gifts’ required will be sent nearer the time.

Basic Skills Assessment

The school has submitted an application for The Basic Skills Quality Mark, due to our continuing success in meeting and indeed exceeding National Targets.  We will have our final assessment on Friday 22nd September and will notify you of the outcome as soon as we know.

School Grounds

Would anyone be kind enough to supply us with a few bulbs again this year, so that we can have lots of colour in the Spring.  If everyone donates a few as in the past, it will be wonderful.  The children enjoy the planting and the colourful results later in the New Year.

School Meals

The Wednesday ‘hot meal’ trial last week worked very well and feedback from children and parents has been positive, so far.  Before we continue this provision on a longer term basis it would be helpful to have all of your comments.  We are aware that there are some minor issues to be “ironed out” in terms of the systems needed to order meals and make payment.  When we receive your feedback we can then confirm when the meals  will be available on a consistent basis.  Please return the form overleaf:

I would be interested in my child booking a hot meal each week and understand that payment must be made in advance and is not refundable if my child is not at school on the day.
