Newsletter Autumn Term 03 - 2004
Dear Parents
Welcome back after the
half term break. I hope the wet weather
didn’t hinder your activities too much.
A particular warm welcome to our reception children who are beginning
their whole days at school as from today.
They have all settled in wonderfully and seem to be thoroughly enjoying
their start to their school days. As we
embark on the very busy run up to Christmas, I will bring you up to date on
school items and forthcoming events. It
was lovely to see the school and our pupils represented so well in the local
press over the last two weeks. If you
missed the articles, feel free to look at the copies in our folder of press
cuttings near the computer suite.
French Classes
The Key stage 2 children
who started French in September are doing remarkably well after only a few weeks.
They are very enthusiastic and as predicted are soaking up the experience like
little sponges. We are delighted with
this positive start and will continue to monitor their progress along with the
rest of the curriculum as the year progresses.
Music/Creative Expression
Key Stage 1 pupils are
having a lovely time creating and performing musical activities. The Friends Committee kindly agreed to
purchase some of the more unusual multi cultural instruments for the children
to explore such as African drums, rain shakers and a didgeridoo to name a
few. I am hoping that they might share
their talents with us at the Christmas Assembly!
Early Years Canopy /Outdoor Play Area
As you know there will
be a canopy added onto Diamond class in the near future in order to provide an
extra facility for our Early Years children.
The plans have been submitted to the Planning office; therefore we hope
to see a start to the work sometime in the Spring Term. The architects drawing for the scheme will
be displayed near the school office, so please have a look at what promises to
be an exciting building project which will benefit all of our young pupils.
Sponsored Walk
Despite the weather we
raised an amazing £630.25 (so far) for our sponsored walk. As agreed we intend to send half of the
proceeds to the Dorset Air Ambulance.
As always the children did a fantastic job and were very keen to do
their best. They must be congratulated
for their efforts. . Many thanks to all of the parents and family and friends
who sponsored the children with such generosity. If you have not yet returned your sponsorship money, it will
still be gratefully received in the school office. Our thanks to Mrs Geary who organised the event.
Mathematics Evening
A reminder that prior to
the Governors Annual Report to Parents on Monday 8th November, there
will be a Mathematics information evening for parents. So often parents feel that this area in
particular has changed in terms of teaching and learning methods, therefore we
thought that an information evening to reassure you that there is still only
one right answer to a mathematical problem, but there are many methods to
achieving that right answer. If you
intend to come to the evening would you please let Mrs Cutler know, so that we
can decide whether to use the hall or a classroom? This is a good opportunity
to see how your children acquire mathematical skills.
Poppies
At this time of
Remembrance, we will be selling poppies on behalf of the British Legion before
and after school.
Friends of The School (PTA)
We would be delighted if
someone could come forward to be the Treasurer of the Friends. Sally Lavender has done a super job for the
last 3 years; therefore, we now need someone else to take on this vital role.
At our last meeting we
discussed future events. A reminder
that the next Quiz Evening will be on Saturday 20th November at the
Sports Club. Look out for posters and
get your team details to a member of the Friends or the school office.
Raffle prizes for any forthcoming events will be gratefully received.
There will be a
Christmas Bazaar Meeting on Monday 15th November at 2:45pm in the
school library. Remember everyone is welcome at this meeting so that we can
draw on everybody’s ideas and support. Please come along.
After School Clubs
Teacher led clubs will
end on 10th December, due to other events taking place near the end
of term. Your child will be notified
about other clubs nearer the time.
Vouchers
As always we will
collect anything and everything. Please put vouchers in the collection box in
the hall.
Children in Need
There will be a
non-uniform day on Friday 19th November in aid of Children in
Need. Please allow your child to make a
small donation to support this charity.
Biscuits made by the children will be on sale during week commencing 15th
November. The school council will issue
further details nearer the time.
A reminder that if I am
out of school due to Ofsted training or Consultant visits, Jane Rosser the
Deputy Head teacher will be available to deal with any queries or
concerns. Please feel free to speak to
Jane Cutler or Sarah Lea if an appointment is required.
I hope I have covered
most of the relevant information for the very busy run up to Christmas, but
please let me know if you have any queries or further comments.
Yours sincerely
Bernie Green
