Dear Parents
Welcome back after what seemed like a never ending half term – what a pity about the weather; but the children seemed to have had a good rest and are now eager to work towards Christmas!
Friends of Abbas &Templecombe (PTA)
We are holding our meeting at school on Tuesday 15th November at 2.45pm. Please come to this very important meeting to see how funds raised are used and to get involved in the planning of our forthcoming Christmas Bazaar. If you have pre-school children please bring them as the meetings do not last long. We need to elect new officers to lead the Friends in their fundraising efforts. Please come, even if you only have a little time to spare for the two main fundraising events that take place each year.
A Christmas Bazaar meeting will also be held on the 25th November at 2.45pm.
The Christmas Bazaar will take place on Friday 9th December
at 2pm
Parents Evening
Please make your appointment for Parents’ Evenings using the sheets supplied or via the school office. See the class teacher or myself if your appointment time is difficult.
Book Fair
There will be a Book Fair from 15th – 22nd November in the School Hall. Books of all kinds for sale.
Poppy Appeal
Poppies will be on sale throughout this week for Remembrance Sunday. They will be sold before and after school each day. Please support this worthwhile cause.
Every Child Matters
You will no doubt have heard of the Government document “Every Child Matters”, published recently. Its basic message is that there are five important outcomes for school age children:
1) That they are safe
2) That they are healthy
3) That they achieve to the best of their ability
4) That they become valuable members of their community
5) That they are equipped for life in the future
We wholeheartedly support these very important factors and have always tried to keep them central to the development of every child who attends Abbas &Templecombe Church of England Primary School. In our efforts we enlist the help and support of other agencies from time to time, for example: the medical profession, social services, the Police, the Fire Service as well as members of the community to provide as wide range of activities for the children as possible.
We will put posters up around school shortly to remind you of the vital role parents have in working with the school to make suggestions and put forward ideas. Your views will be most welcome.
Family Learning Co-ordinator
In our efforts to seek parents’ views about ways to improve or enhance our provision we have appointed Mrs Ruth Joy as a Family Learning Co-ordinator. Ruth will be sending out a questionnaire shortly to ask for views and also to ask about possible future courses for parents. In the past we have successfully organised computer courses, parent and child workshops etc. Please take the time to complete the questionnaire so that we can consider your views.
Breakfast Club
From Monday 14th November we are trialling a Breakfast Club. Pupils can come to school at 8.20am (no earlier please) to enjoy a healthy breakfast of juice, toast, cereal etc. The cost for each session will be 50p to cover food. The club will be staffed by Mrs Sherry initially and will be subsidised by the school. Please complete the form attached if you would like your child to attend any days next week and return to the school office for Mrs Sherry. Naturally, it is expected that this service will only be used by parents who find it difficult to provide adequate time for breakfast at home.
Theatre Trip
We are taking all of the children to see Snow White at the Octagon on 19th December. This is being paid for from the PTA funds! More details nearer the time.

Bernie Green
