NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 05 – 2006

                                                                                                            2nd November 2006

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back after the half term break.  I hope you enjoyed the holiday and thank you for sending the children back so smartly presented and well rested.  Diamond Class children seem very eager and excited about spending the whole day in school.  Welcome also to our new children and parents who have just joined our school community.

Hot Meals Trial

A reminder that we are trialling another hot meal provider on Wednesday 8th November.  If you wish your child to have a hot meal on that day, please send payment and slip in a named envelope to the school office by Friday 3rd November.

Ofsted Inspection Report

If you did not receive your copy of the Ofsted Inspection Report please let the school office know.  As a result of our inspection we are to receive a visit from David Taylor – Somerset’s Director of Children’s Services.

Crossing Patrol

As mentioned on the last newsletter, Mrs Kim Stone has kindly agreed to do crossing patrol duties during the mornings only.  There will be some exceptions to this due to her prior commitments therefore please do not ‘assume’ she will always be there.  It is very important that children are accompanied by an adult to cross this very busy road.

Violin Tuition

Years 4 and 5 pupils will be given the opportunity to have ‘taster’ violin lessons for 6 weeks.  Following this, pupils can then sign up for violin tuition with Somerset Music for a longer period.  There is no cost for the ‘taster’ sessions.

This is excellent as we can now offer tuition for; violin, piano, guitar, drums and recorder.

Assembly

Rev’d Peter Hallett will be joining us for assembly on Wednesday 8th November, which will be lovely.

School Nurse

Our new school nurse Mrs Kate Hutchings (past parent at the school) will be visiting us frequently to support pupils’ health and well-being.  Her first visit will be on Thursday 9th November to talk to Sapphire Class about drugs and alcohol education.

‘Friends’ Meeting

There will be a meeting of the Friends (PTA) on Tuesday 7th November at 2.45pm.  Newcomers welcome.  Main agenda item is the Christmas Bazaar.

Non Uniform Day

There will be a non-uniform day on Thursday 16th November.  In return for wearing their own clothes, it would be appreciated if pupils could bring an item for the tombola or a raffle prize (wine/chocolate/ bath

shower lotions etc).  These will be stored for the bazaar.

Christmas Bazaar

The Christmas Bazaar will be on November 24th at 2pm in the school hall.  More information soon.

Parents’ Evening

There will be an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress on Wednesday 15th November from 4.00pm – 6.00pm and on Thursday 16th November from 6.00pm – 8.00pm.  Appointments will be 10 minutes per child and you will be advised about your child’s strengths and areas for development and how you can work with us to further support your child’s progress.

Appointment sheets will be on display in the school hall from Friday 3rd November, but if you are unable to call in to select an appointment, please phone the school office.  We will endeavour to give you your preferred time, but please see your child’s class teacher or me if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Once again welcome back to a very busy half term and ‘run up’ to Christmas.

If you have any comments or issues concerning your child’s education please le me know.

Yours sincerely
