Dear Parents
The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Octagon Theatre to see The Borrowers. They were impeccably behaved, as always, and gained a lot from the experience. Our thanks again to the Friends of the school for subsidising this valuable trip.
A reminder that the school will be closed on Friday 11th February for staff training. The teaching staff are going to Bruton School for a County led training session with a few other local schools. The subject of the training is based around new materials for Learning and Teaching in the Primary School.
The Half Term holiday will therefore begin on Friday 11th for pupils and the school will re-open on Monday 21st February 2005.
Our Spring Disco will take place on Thursday 10th February. The Friends of the School have organised the event as follows:
Key Stage 1 pupils will have their disco from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. They can change for the disco in the classroom at the end of the day. Help will be available!
Key Stage 2 children will have their disco from 4:45- 6:00pm
There will be no teacher led after school activities or Emma`s dance on Thursday 10th. (I will check with Mr Stump and his footballers to see what arrangements they will make early next week.)
Please would you sign the consent slip below to acknowledge that your child can attend and that you will collect them at the appropriate time and ensure their safe return home.
The children can bring a small amount of money if they wish to buy sweets at the disco. The Friends are supplying drinks.
There will be a meeting of the Friends, as planned on Monday 7th February at 2:45pm in my office.
We continue to encourage the children to consider a healthy diet and thank you for supporting us in this important part of their education. At lunchtime children are allowed to bring cake or biscuits to eat after the savoury part of their lunch, but can I remind you that sweets of any kind are not encouraged. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
Staffing
I am sure you will join me in welcoming Miss Sarah Hann to our school. (She is the very young, energetic one who has been supporting Mrs Geary`s Fit Kids session this week)
Sarah is a post graduate trainee teacher who will be working with Mrs Laurie and Emerald class this term and in Ruby class next term. I am sure Sarah will enjoy her time at our school and leave us fully fledged at the end of the Summer.
Miss Louisa Kipping who has been working with Sapphire class leaves us this week, but will return for the rest of her training in the Summer term. We thank Louisa for her work at the school and wish her well on her next placement.
I have started my Ofsted Inspection Training now, as planned, therefore please remember that if I am out of school, Mrs Jane Rosser, Deputy Head teacher will be in the office to undertake Head teacher`s duties and will be pleased to help you.
I have been made aware of the fact that the road between Templecombe and Wincanton will be subject to roadworks after half term. This will be very inconvenient for those travelling from the Horsington, Wincanton direction as the road will be closed. I hope that you will be able to find an alternative route to school prior to school opening after Half Term.
Topaz class will be receiving 5 football coaching sessions after half term during their PE lessons.
I hope all is clear, but please let me know if not.
Wishing you a lovely half term break.
Yours sincerely
Bernie Green
Head teacher
