NEWSLETTER SPRING 02 – 2007
25thJanuary 2007
Dear Parents/Guardians
Lunchtime Supervisor
Mrs Sandra Brabon who has been part of our lunchtime supervisor’s team for the last seven years has had to resign due to health issues. Sandra is recovering from an operation, but has been advised by her doctor to find other employment which is less physical.
We wish to thank Sandra for her years of commitment to the school and its pupils by presenting her with a gift at a farewell assembly near to half term. If you would like to make a contribution to Sandra’s leaving gift would you please send it in a clearly marked envelope to the school office.
Vacancy
As a result of Sandra’s resignation, we now have a vacancy for a new lunchtime supervisor. If anyone is interested would they please contact Jane Cutler in the school office to obtain details of the terms and conditions.
Healthy School National Award
We are now the proud holders of the National ‘Healthy School Award’. For several years we have held the Somerset Healthy School Status, but this has now been converted to the National Award, which you may have heard about in the media.
Health Issues
Particularly in this cold spell, would you please make sure your child is “well kitted out” for playtimes. Ideally, they need a warm coat, scarf, gloves and hat to keep them warm at playtimes, even though they are running around.
Thanks for your support during our recent heating problem. Fortunately the school remained fairly warm throughout the day; therefore the children and staff were comfortable. The engineers are due to return shortly to install a new pump to our system.
Head Lice
We continue like all schools across the county to have the nuisance of head lice, therefore would all parents please establish a routine where hair is ‘fine combed’ with conditioner every couple of days. This is the only way to keep this problem, although not a major health risk, under control. It is very unpleasant for the child due to the itching. Adults also harbour head lice, so please treat all members of the family to avoid re-infestation. I am in discussion with Kate Hutchings, our school nurse to see what extra advice she has on the subject.
Admissions for September 2007
Apparently Somerset County Council feel we have now reached our admission number for Reception for September 2007, therefore if you have not registered your child or know of anyone new to the area, please contact the school office. Some people have been disappointed to hear that they have not been allocated a place at Abbas & Templecombe; therefore I would also like these individuals to contact me as soon as possible. It is very important if you are moving out of the area, to let the Admissions Team know so that a place can be freed for someone else.
Scottish Dancing
Unfortunately Mrs Fellows will be attending a course next Wednesday, therefore there will be no Scottish dancing next week. Normal classes will continue the following week.
World Book Day
Thursday 1st March is World Book Day. Children will be able to dress as a character from a book on this day. More details to follow nearer the time.
I hope all is clear, but please let me know if you are unsure of any of the contents of this newsletter or if you have any queries about your child’s education.
Yours sincerely
Bernie Green
