Dear Parents/Guardians

Even though this term has been extremely short it has been an interesting one for the children with so many varied activities taking place. The children enjoyed their visit to the Theatre and the Key Stage two children developed their appreciation of art by visiting Bristol Museum.

The new ‘Theme Team’ after school club has been well attended and it is good to see all the children enjoying it. We have also now introduced the teaching of the Double Bass to year six children, so we are looking forward to them sharing their expertise.

Parents` evenings

Just a reminder that as there are parents` evenings next week there will not be any teacher led clubs. All other clubs will continue as normal. (If in doubt please ask the individual who runs the club.)

Easter egg hunt and Easter bonnet competition

Next Wednesday, 23rd March there will be the Easter Egg hunt kindly organised and funded by the Friends. Your children will have great fun collecting their eggs.  If your child has an allergy to ingredients possibly in small eggs and Cadbury’s Cream Eggs, please see Mrs Green, so that a substitute can be provided.

On Wednesday please would all of the children who are entering the Easter Bonnet competition wear their hats in to school and then they can be worn over to the Church for the Thursday end of term assembly.  Just a reminder that it will be at 1.45pm and, as always, everyone is welcome.

Vouchers

In the hall we have a collection box for any type of voucher, including the new Sainsburys and Tesco  vouchers.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to all who supported our Comic Relief Fund raising day.  We raised an amazing £250!   A special thanks to Jessica Wake and her mum, who made cakes at home and at school for sale on the day.  Well done every one.

Topaz Class

Mrs Rosser is currently seeking a Head teacher’s position, therefore she has been given the opportunity to work at Keinton Mandeville Primary School, as Acting Head teacher for the Summer Term. This will be extremely good experience for Mrs Rosser and we wish her well.  Mrs Rosser will rejoin the school as Deputy Head teacher in September 2005.

Topaz Class will be left in the capable hands of Mrs Wendy Brettell, who covered Year 6 during Mrs Rosser`s maternity leave.  Mrs Sheila Kitts will also be joining us to support the Music/ Creativity Curriculum in Topaz class.  Without doubt, the children in Topaz class will be well supported and challenged with a variety of activities throughout the Summer term.  If you have any concerns or comments about the arrangements, please see me.

Swimming for Year 5 and 6

I took the decision to postpone our swimming sessions at Wincanton for the last 2 weeks, as I am not happy about the arrangements for changing provided for pupils, bearing in mind there are sometimes members of the public leaving  as we arrive and waiting to use the pool as we leave. The Centre manager has agreed to allocate better provision next term. Can I reassure you that the children will receive their full entitlement to swimming before the end of the Summer term.

New Term

The Summer Term begins on Monday 11th April.

Our final Teacher Training Day this academic year will be on Monday 27th June .

The school finishes for Summer on Friday 22nd July.  At the start of next term I will send out more information regarding the arrangements for the next term.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need to discuss any of the items in this newsletter or anything, which relates to your child`s education.

Wishing you a very Happy Easter from all of the staff and pupils at Abbas and Templecombe.

Yours sincerely
