NEWSLETTER SUMMER 01 – 2007
Dear Parents
Firstly many thanks for your kind words and support following my father’s death over Easter. It is a very difficult time and your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated.
This will be a busy term with National assessments for year 6 and year 2, a school production, visits and transfer of pupils into and out of our school, as well as organisation of new classes for September. I will keep you well informed of all of these things as they arise.
Bank Holiday/Training Day
A reminder that Monday 7th May is a Bank Holiday and is followed on 8th May with a Teacher Training Day, therefore school will not be open that day. School re-opens on Wednesday 9th May 2007.
New Parents Meeting
On Thursday 10th May there will be a meeting in the school hall at 6.30pm for parents of children who are due to start school in September. All have been notified but if you know of anyone who is unaware of this meting please let me know.
Staffing
During this term we will have extra staff in school, as previously mentioned Mrs Montague will return to work in Sapphire Class on 21st May and Mr Briggs will be working with Topaz Class. We are delighted they will be joining us at this time of year.
National Tests
Year 6 complete their assessments in week commencing 14th May to 18th May inclusive. A daily timetable has been issued to support their revision work. I am confident that they will all achieve to the best of their ability and therefore they will approach the week with calm and confidence.
Internal Assessments for years 3-5 will take place as part of their normal curriculum in the week commencing 21st May 2007. Year 2 tests will be carried out during the latter part of May and the children will probably not even notice. With younger children the tests are carried out very ‘sensitively’ by Mrs Fellows and incorporated into many usual daily routines and practices. The results of all of these assessments will be reported to parents in the individual annual reports.
New Building Projects
As always we are looking at ways to improve our school buildings and community facilities. Much to the boys’ delight we now have a beautifully refurbished boys toilet area near Sapphire Class. The other toilet blocks will be refurbished as soon as possible. I was told today by pupils that they look like “a luxury 5 star!”
Pre-School/Community Building
Having successfully secured funding of £100,000 in grants for a new Pre-school/Extended Schools Community Room we are planning to hopefully locate the building on the old swimming pool site. There is some shortfall in terms of total costs, so if you have any ideas about local businesses or individuals who might like to donate funds we would love to hear from you. This building will provide an ideal setting for Sticky Fingers and will also provide room for before and after school care of pupils.
Half Term
Already half term is creeping up fast and we finish on Friday 25th May. School re-opens on Tuesday 5th June 2007, following a joint Training Day with King Arthur’s and other primary schools on Monday 4th June.
We are looking forward to a busy half term. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries about your child’s education.
Yours sincerely
Bernie Green
