Newsletter 01 – Summer Term
2006
Dear Parents
I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter and at least some time to rest. I have attached a list of dates for the forthcoming term, but if any further events are organised we will let you know.
Mrs Jane Rosser – Deputy
Headteacher
Many of you will know that Mrs Jane Rosser has been absent from Abbas & Templecombe for some time now due to the fact that she has been acting Headteacher at High Ham School. I am very pleased that Jane has now been appointed as permanent Headteacher, therefore we thank her for her work at Abbas & Templecombe and wish her every success in the future. If you would like to contribute to a leaving gift for Mrs Rosser please do so via the school office.
The role of Deputy Headteacher has been carried out on a temporary arrangement with Mrs Geary and the Governing body have decided that we will continue with the current arrangements.
Miss Kirstin Inglefield
A post graduate student from Exeter University will be working with Sapphire Class this term. We hope that she enjoys her training period at the school. We also look forward to the return of Mrs Tara Reynolds-Hart to Ruby Class in a few weeks.
After School Clubs
We have been very lucky in being able to put together a programme of after school clubs again this term. Unfortunately it will be necessary to charge for clubs run by Teaching Assistants, as our school budget, which has previously paid for this facility is needed to further support pupils within the school day. I am sure that you will understand that our main function is to provide a good education for all pupils and that resources must be allocated to this purpose as a priority. No profit is made, but fees must cover the cost of salaries for the Teaching Assistants giving up their time. Teachers, although not expected to or contracted to run clubs, will continue to provide their time where possible.
Head Lice
Please condition and wet comb your child’s hair at least twice a week, so that we can try to eradicate the head lice outbreaks that occur from time to time. If everyone does this it will keep the problem under control.
St Margaret’s Hospice
This will be our main beneficiary this year, therefore we are having a whole school sponsored walk on 11th May. More details to follow.
Queen’s Coronation
Emerald class are studying the Queen’s Coronation in their History lessons, if anyone has any items relating to this, that you would be willing to share with Emerald class, please let Mrs Fellows know.
Collage Materials
Diamond class, would like donations of any collage materials i.e. old clean blankets for puppets, beads etc.
Please see Miss Pritchard if you think you can help.
Swimming
Sapphire & Topaz classes will be swimming week commencing 15th May, a letter will follow next week outlining costs etc.
Term Time Holidays
A reminder that term time holidays can only be authorised in ‘exceptional’ circumstances. Please read the holiday request form carefully and note the exceptional circumstance clearly.
