NEWSLETTER SUMMER 07– 2007
Dear Parents
This will probably be the final newsletter for this school year, so forgive me if it is a little long.
Shadow Puppets/Longleat Trip
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the shadow puppet workshop and performance last Thursday and Friday and the Longleat trip on Wednesday. Let’s hope the weather is fine for Ruby and Sapphire’s visit on Friday.
Reports
All reports were sent home on Friday therefore please return the slip to confirm receipt with any comments. I was very pleased to note the high levels of attainment and effort by the majority of the children throughout the school.
National Tests
Pupils in Year 6 performed extremely well in the National Tests again this year;
Results were as follows: Mathematics 100% - Level 4 +
English 100% - Level 4 +
Science 100% - Level 4 +
with excellent numbers of Level 5’s in all three subjects. Well done to all of the children. This will set them off to a very good start at Secondary school.
Sponsored Skip
The Sponsored Skip raised nearly £500 for the British Heart Foundation. Many thanks to all who supported this very good cause. Any monies still awaiting collection will be gratefully received.
Staffing
Jan Fellows will now be remaining with us until January, when Mr Wayne Higgins will take up his post as Deputy Headteacher and Year 5 teacher. Jan will teach Year 5 for the Autumn Term, following Mrs Geary’s move to her new school in Gloucestershire (Gift contributions to the school office).
Ruth Joy will be leaving us this
term as she is relocating to
Jube Walker is also leaving us to
take up a University Degree course at
Kim Stone left on Friday, therefore please remember that you must ensure your child’s safe journey to and from school.
Is there anyone who would be interested in the Crossing Patrol position? Please phone the school office.
Head Lice
We have been continuously sending out ‘head lice’ letters this year due to the constant re-occurrence of lice. Please would all parents do their child’s hair regularly (every few days) in order to control this problem. Unless everyone carries out checks and treatment, lice will continue to survive. There is nothing we can do at school and the school nurse service is also not allowed to check and treat hair. Please make a real effort to control this problem.
Hot School Meals
The provider of hot school meals is hoping to run a service for 2/3 days per week from September, so I will let you know as soon as this is arranged.
New Calendars
Please find attached a new school calendar from September 2007 – July 2008.
As you can see we return to school on Tuesday 4th September. September 3rd is a staff training day.
Other staff training days are circled.
Year 6 BBQ
The Year 6 barbeque will be after school on Monday 23rd July. Children can be picked up at 5.30pm.
End of Term Service
The end of year service will be at St Mary’s at 1.45pm on Tuesday. All are welcome: please remember that you can collect your child from school after the service.
Sports Day
The weather has been so awful that it is unlikely that we can reschedule sports day this year. The field has been so wet that it has been impossible to safely run the event and to avoid the other scheduled activities.
Part-time School Clerical Assistant Post
As Ruth is leaving us, we now have a vacancy for two days per week in the office. If anyone is interested in applying for this position would they please forward a letter of application and a C.V. by August 10th. Terms and Conditions can be obtained from the school office.
School Development Plan
As you know we are always striving to improve the provision we offer at the school and your views as parents are vital to this process.
The Governments Guidance under the “Every Child Matters” document forms the basis for our proposals and decisions, therefore would you please complete the comment sheet attached if you have any suggestions under the five outcomes mentioned.
Yours sincerely
