Hello & Welcome
to the Sticky Fingers web page. We hope you find the page informative
and helps to give you an insight of what we are all about!
We have been operating
in Templecombe for over 30 years, providing Pre - School education.
We are a registered charity, which is managed by a committee and
run on a daily basis by a qualified Pre - School Supervisor.
We hold 7 sessions a week in Templecombe village hall, which with
the help from staff, converts into a bright, fun and stimulating
environment for the children to be in.
We are located next to Abbas & Templecombe Primary School,
where there is parking available in Throop road car park.
The Pre - School has good strong links with the primary school
and the older children will gradually get to know their reception
class teacher and their classroom in preparation for their entry
to school.
The same applies if your child will be attending another local
school, we will ensure your child meets their class teacher prior
to starting. To ensure a happy transition from Pre - School to
primary school.
Our aims at Sticky Fingers Pre
- School is to:-
- Provide high
quality care and education for children primarily below statutory
school age,
- To work in partnership
with parents to help children to learn and develop their knowledge
and understanding of themselves, others and the world around
them through constructive, supervised play and education.
- Add to the life
and well being of it's local community and
- Offer children
and their parents a service, which promotes equality and values
diversity
Sessions:
In May 2006 Sticky Fingers Pre - School extended
it's registration from sessional care to full day care. We are
open 5 days a week (Mon - Fri) between 9am and 12pm(midday) and
we have extended by introducing afternoon sessions to provide
all day care on Wednesdays and Fridays (9am - 3.15pm) during term
time. Parents are asked to provide their child with a healthy
lunchbox if they are staying all-day or coming for the afternoon
session.
Plus we now take children from 2 years old (children in nappies
welcomed)
Sticky Fingers Pre - School works along the same holidays as Templecombe
and Abbas Primary School.
Our morning routine
is made up of registration, free play, snack time, physical /
outdoor play, (we have a very spacious outdoor area where we share
the primary schools playground & field, plus we are creating
our own garden space in the environmental area where there are
opportunities for digging, growing our own veg & fruit, plus
we take the children on lovely village walks where children show
interest in the world around us). Circle / key group time, story
time & home links. During our afternoon activities we offer
cookery and gardening.
Topic of interest / Learning:
To finish the Autum term we held our Christmas
party and had a visit from the Activity bus in the afternoon where
the children climbed aboard and make christmassy crafts and played.
We then had a very special visit from Father Christmas who landed
on the bus and visited the children, where they happily visited
him in the grotto upstairs to receive a present!
We also held our nativity play over in St Mary's Church where
parents and families came to watch their little ones preform the
Christmas Story, they were all star performers!
We now return back in the new year and to start the spring term
off we shall be looking at Winter ( this will cover winter weather,
clothes we wear to keep warm & animals that live in cold countries)
Plus special events such as baking pancakes for Shrove Tuesday,
making peppermint creams for Valentines Day!
Then after half term till Easter we will move onto Journey's and
making special crafts for Mothers Day & Easter. Plus much
more planned to keep their little minds stimulated through their
play.
During our afternoon sessions children will remain having opportunities
to do some cookery fun, gardening activities, Fun with French
and this term will include fun with movement / p.e as the children
have fun moving to music, using larger physical equipment, developing
their gross motor skills & co ordination. Plus practising/
developing their dressing & fastening skills.
With a friendly team of qualified & in training members of
staff, we offer a high standard of care & education for the
under 5 , where children "play to learn"

things are progressing the pre-school to move onto school site
and to be located in our own nursery classroom. This will enable
us to open for longer hours as at present. fixtures & fittings
and colours have been decided on and so we keep our fingers crossed
to be in our new home before the summer term. please click on
the "even better appeal" link at the main menu fro more
information.
Last term we ended with our sports day & teddies bear picnic
where presentations took place for the 14 pre-scholars, this was
well supported by mums, dads, grandparents and young siblings
who joined in with the fun & celebrations. All of the pre-scholars
where very excited about the prospect of starting "big"
school- we wish them all well as they move up into the reception
class ready for their next adventure!
So here we are at the start of the Autumn term a new academic
year! and we welcome back the rest of the group & their families
plus the new little ones joining the group this term. We start
the new term off by looking at "Nursery Rhymes & Fairy
Tales", singing our favourite rhymes and reading our favourite
fairy tales!
Then after half term we will move onto "Celebrations"
bonfire night, Diwali, Christmas plus much more to keep their
little minds stimulated through their play experiences.
During our afternoon sessions children will remain having opportunities
to so some cookery fun , gardening activities, fun with french
and this term we are gong to introduce "fun with music"
as the children have fun singing, listening & making sounds
from instruments, making their own instruments & making sounds
from other materials ie: a piece of paper.
